Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is whole bean better?
Grinding your own coffee is one of the best steps you can take when creating a perfect cup of coffee. Whole Bean Coffee does keep longer, but the proper grind is equally important! We suggest keeping only the amount of coffee you will use with in a week. If you have a grinder great! If not let us grind it, we have very precise grinders insuring that your coffee will be ground exactly the way you need it!
What are the differences between the various countries coffee? Which one is the best?
The coffee’s country of origin is largely a matter of personal taste and flavors can be quite different even with the same country depending on the growing region (not unlike wine!). For this reason it would be silly for us to make generalizations in any particular region. Check out our “cupping” notes try them all and compare, it’s fun!
Why does the grind matter?
To ensure proper extraction. For example if you put to fine of a grind in your press pot (french press) it will over extract and become bitter, vice versa if you put coffee ground for your press pot in your cone shaped filter it will under extract leaving you with a not very flavorful cup of hot brown water. Not sure how to grind it? Just ask us.
Do you guys do Decaf Coffee?
Decaf- Yes we do! We roast 100% Natural Mountain Water Process Decaffeinated Coffees.
Can I get an Owl Tree sticker with my order?
Sure! Stickers are cool.
How should I store my coffee?
We suggest storing one weeks worth of coffee at a time in an air tight dark container at room temperature.
How can I open the coffee bag properly so it can be resealed for maximum freshness?
This is a common problem with the paper bags, in order to get a good air tight seal they will have to be opened with scissors. Cut them right along/above the top of the black plastic resealing piece with scissors and you should be good. Can be a little tedious sometimes but on the up side this is why we are able ship great coffee and you are able to buy our coffee off the shelf at somewhere like Whole Foods and get a fresh tasting product. Not to mention the paper part of the bags are more earth friendly natural recycled kraft paper not died with any inks, etc. Yippee!
